Hiroshima Outdoor Screening In this Corner of the World Header

Hiroshima, Japan –  A pop-up outdoor theater near the Atomic Bomb Dorm will feature the animated film “In This Corner of the World,” which depicts wartime industrial cities Kure and Hiroshima, on Saturday, October 25 at the Honkawa Left Bank Green Space in Motomachi, Naka Ward, Hiroshima City.

Dubbed as Poppla Theater, the programs of the pop-up theater include a talk show with the film’s director, Sunao Katabuchi, a music concert and a food booths. The ad-hoc committee is accepting applications for up to 300 participants until the October 22.

The venue will be set up at the riverside green space, commonly known as “Motomachi Poppla Street,” and the screening will take place from around 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Before the movie, there will be a concert featuring the French string instrument, the cithara, starting at 4:30 p.m., and a talk show with Director Katabuchi at 5:30 p.m. Food booths selling curry, beer, and more will open from 3:30 p.m.

This will be the first Poppla Theater event in six years, since before the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019. A donation of 500 yen per adult is requested for participation. In case of rain, the event will be postponed to Sunday, October 26.
