Victims in Machino were rescued by helicopters and transported to shelter

The article reports on the isolation caused by an earthquake in the Machino district of Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture. On the 8th of January, in the afternoon, some residents were rescued by Self-Defense Force helicopters and relocated to shelters.

According to a man whose 80-year-old mother was stranded in the Terayama area of Machino district, he received word from his mother that she and some residents were rescued by Self-Defense Force helicopters after 2 p.m. on the 8th.

The residents were transported to “Machino Elementary School,” situated approximately 3 kilometers away from the center of Machino district, and sought refuge in the gymnasium, which had been turned into a shelter.

The man, who had spoken with his rescued mother over the phone, expressed relief, saying, “I’m glad to hear she’s safe and found refuge where supplies can reach. I’m concerned about the cold as I’ve heard the shelter’s gymnasium lacks enough stoves and is extremely chilly.”
